MANDATE

The mandate of the Vancouver Métis Community Association (VMCA) is to work towards stronger Métis communities and families. This mandate will be achieved through the development of partnerships with organizations and individuals that see the value in the revitalization of Métis cultural practices and communities.

GOAL
bullet To advance the concerns of Métis people through the education of the public, to communicate with all levels of government, and to promote harmony between the Métis people and all groups of society by means of education and representation.
bullet To promote the search of spiritual meaning for the Métis people and preserve our culture for our community.
bullet To advocate the health and welfare of the Métis people, and to improve the quality of life and the standard of living through education and cultural awareness.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE :

The VMCA is set up as a society under the guidelines and rules laid out by the Attorney General of British Columbia. Further to this we adhere to our own internal protocols and regulations. Our community organization has a board with positions for a President, Vice-President & Captain of the Hunt, Treasurer, and General Members. This board works through the advice and direction given to it by the Elders Council. The board and all positions are reap pointed once a year at the annual general meeting. On average board members sit for 3- 4 years. Any member of the community is given the opportunity to run for board positions should they wish. There is also a conscious attempt to have equal gender representation on the board and committees.
